It took two years to put together our Mitsubishi Canter 4WD truck.
It works well off-road and has experienced some challenging conditions with no breakages. Fuel economy varies between 6 and 8 kilometres per litre; worst economy was in heavy sand 4WD sometimes for 100s of ks.
The Canter is tough and serviceable anywhere in Australia. Because we wanted a strong vehicle that was as light weight as possible, all the sub frame, frame, cladding and furniture is made of aluminium. The total finished vehicle weight is 3.8 tonnes and 4.4 tonnes fully laden. The cab-chassis was 2.6 tonnes to start with.
The finished height is 2.9m and the total length is 5.4m - the same length as a Toyota troop carrier.
